Okay! What are we chatting about?

Nothing too serious. Heard through the grapevine you got a prize or something this week, yeah?

[Sorry for that ominous intro, Mary. Taako just has an Aura. Just nodding along with Magnus, since that's pretty much the point.]

A prize? Who told you that?

[She'd probably sound more confused if she wasn't halfway distracted stirring her spoon around in her McFlurry.]

Ass told us. Showed us the card and everything. Just curious if you got to pick it from a box of pins. I had that a couple weeks back.

Do you call him Ass, pumpkin? Just curious. Kinda think that'd be hilarious if you did, that's all.

And yeah, we got to mess around with the pin box. Ours was lame as shit.

[Mary laughs. So, they must be good friends with Assassin if he told them!]

No, I call him Shinshin, and I got it as a present from somebody else. I thought that it would be better to give it to someone who's more likely to get targeted than I am. I've heard about the pin box, though! What did you guys get?

Just a lousy hint. The card seemed more fun. But yeah, it's not a bad idea for him to hang onto it.

Shoulda picked the sword. But yeah, uh, we told him to hold onto that bad boy.

[Hmm. Considering Shinshin. No, not as fun as Ass.]

He wanted to be part of the crew, and we're currently down a Cleric, so. Seemed fine to me.

Your crew? You mean the one you talked about at the trial, where Jacopo would tell you things?

[Aaaahhhh, it makes her stop and look gently thoughtful.]

Is it fun? I bet it's fun to have a group of friends.

Taako was talking about our crew from home - our buddy Merle isn't here, and Taako really misses him.

[Forces Taako to acknowledge an emotion.]

It is fun to have a group of friends. But you know, don't you, kiddo? You've made a lot of friends here.

Oh, yes, I just wake up every morning aching for a full day of misplaced items, bad puns, and a big old bowl of never being healed, ever. Gods how I wish he had died with us to join in on this next great Adventure. I yearn to hear his symphony of farts as he forgets whether he uses a handaxe or a warhammer and we all have to argue about it for at least an hour. Magnus is the cry-er, not me.

[He . . . does miss him. But don't fucking doxx him Magnus.]

But, yeah, little homie, you seem pretty popular. Lots of people looking out for you.

Yeah! Yeah! Lots of people! A bunch of them are dead now, but we'll bring them back, so it's okay. There are still so many friends left.

[Eats more McFlurry to wash the thought of death off of her tongue.]

Thank you for being nice to Shinshin. I think he's been feeling very sad.

Yeah, that's right. We really wanna bring everybody back. Though I can't pretend it's not going to be hard until then.

[Frowning a little. He knows he's talking to a kid, but it's important to him to try to be honest.]

I think Ass is a pretty all right guy. He's fun to hang out with. He's kinda like me - when he gets mad, he wants to fight someone over it, and that can scare people off.

Yeah, he’s chill.

[Crossing his arms though, looking at his hands.]

Uh, we might need his help though. And yours.

Help with what? I like helping!

[She doesn't know what she's very good at helping with, but...it's the thought that counts.]

Uh. I just wanna check. You a player? Or were you on Jacopo's team?

[Just nodding in a “what he said” motion. Go on go on.]

[Mary definitely looks confused by the question. Clearly, she wasn't expecting it.]

I'm not on any teams. He bought me spaghetti once!

[It was tasty!]

Sure you are! You're on the Players Team. That's the best Team of all! The Karate Kids.

We aren't competing against the other teams, though. Just trying to help them.

The solution to this puzzle - the puzzle being, uh, this Game - is to realize that all sports suck, and we work together to find a better and new hobby.

But that I mean, we're making some strategy changes. I know, uh, there's still people out there that aren't really sold on the whole new rules thing, but I think we're working on it. I know you talk to people a lot, little homie, so maybe just spread the word for us?

I can do that! What's the new strategy?

We aren't going to kill any of the Reapers. Anyone who thinks chasing the Reapers around, trying to kill them, is a good idea? We need to find a way to stop them from doing that, okay?
