That was something truly terrible. But there's business to attend to, last requests and all that. Taako has ditched the veil and also most of the length of the skirt so he can actually move, and he and Magnus have somehow cornered Setz somewhere fairly soon after the spectacle.]

When Setz finds them, he looks as flat as usual, but he's oddly tense now—and it comes out in his voice as well.]

Well, a bit of good news. Apparently, Jacopo wasn't, in fact, tortured.

[Three guesses as to how he knows this and the first two don't count.]

So he just, what, lost three fingers in a tragic anime sword accident?

[SETZ IS OBVIOUSLY SENSITIVE ABOUT THIS DON'T BE RUDE.]

You figured out the killer, huh? They cut off the fingers to make us think it was uglier than it was?

[He actually did not want to talk about how his partner died??]

Oh. I should probably talk to him. Considering I threatened to kill him if he did do it. So, uh, here's hoping he isn't going to try and kill me for saying I'd kill him? Hm. Complicated.

[He looks pretty furious. His hand is balled in a fist, trembling like he wants to punch something.]

You're fucking kidding me. He kept saying he was disappointed in me, and asking if I really thought he could kill someone. Why?

Because at the time, he decided that all Reapers were the enemy and he would do what it took to win. To an extent, he still feels that way—

[And his tone is bitter here, as he can't say he appreciated Newt calling Jacopo's death a win to his face.]

—though he showed some degree of remorse, as he admitted it may have been a premature decision. In any case, he confessed to me as a demonstration of goodwill.

[Crossing, then uncrossing his arms, not really sure how to react. He isn't much of a puncher. It isn't as if he doesn't still want to kill him? For what he did to Jacopo sure, but, selfishly, more than that, what he did to Monika. The both of you! So sad over little old me. Newt has more blood on his hands than anyone so far.]

Premature might be, uh, underselling it a little. What's the goodwill he expects? I suppose "not being brutally punched to death" is part of the deal, right?

And how was he so sure he'd got a Reaper?

[Just going to take a second to slam his fist into a wall. It's just - the way they'd done it. Talking down to Monika, telling her she was being emotional and silly, convincing him to trust that they're helpless and need protection, lecturing him - all the while lying to them all, because they decided to take matters into their own hands and kill someone who, while Magnus isn't shedding any tears for Jacopo, had been working hard to save all of them. And also, he hadn't trusted her either. He'd voted the way she'd asked, but he hadn't trusted her enough to let her certainty be his own. ]

I didn't promise not to punch him. That coward.

[He takes a moment to tiredly wipe at his eyes.]

I don't know. The truth serum part of that theory was correct—he admitted that. So maybe...

[Setz probably should've questioned why he was convinced of Jacopo's role, but he'd been holding himself back from doing something he'd regret—and so he'd moved on from the subject.]

He approached me with an invitation to cooperate, much like you two. But the way he talked about Jacopo and Izaya's deaths was... off, so I asked if it was him. I suppose he realized that not lying would be a good way to start.

[Not flinching at all when Magnus starts punching walls. It’s kind of vicariously satisfying actually. It isn’t as if after the execution he didn’t lose his shit on a few walls either.]

You tell him anything?

[Not judging. He knows they need to share information and cooperate to actually get through this, it just gets harder when it’s cooperating with the dudes who can do shit like that.]

I don't trust him. I don't trust him cooperating. He's already proven he'll go off and resolve the game on his own, if that's what it takes. He could just be trying to get names to go after.

I didn't tell him anything that I haven't already told the public. Trust me, even if I was inclined to give names, the man who murdered my partner wouldn't be the first.

Mostly, I just reiterated why hunting down the Reapers isn't the best move at this stage, since he's still eyeing that win condition.
