[Well! Jesus! That sure was something. Honestly there's probably nothing but weird silence all the way back their hole up, Taako's not really sure what to say - pretty sure the fact he probably drew blood out of Magnus' arm from holding him back so hard at the end of trial says enough.]

[Yeah. Magnus is obviously in a mood all the way back. He's quiet and doesn't say anything - it's a change from his demeanor even directly before the vote was revealed. It's like all the energy was sapped out of him once he saw the results. Magnus does get like this from time to time - angry and sullen at something he doesn't like and doesn't agree with - but not too often.]

[Once they're back, just . . . immediately flopping onto whatever pile of clothes he's using as a bed, digging around in the pockets of some discarded coat for his remaining blunts. Not finding any, but still just digging as a way to avoid having to really bring anything up first. He does know Magnus well enough to know he gets like this. He knows him well enough to know pretty much what the problem is, but he doesn't really want to have to talk about it. He knows part of the problem is, uh. Well. Him. And his pesky need to survive, roachlike. Still silent for now.]

[Going to go up to his stupid knife door (which he's been axing into smaller pieces for carving) and taking a quick punch break, to punch it a few times. Hard. And then chop the door in half with his axe. Yikes. But after about ten minutes of this baby fit, he goes over to the pile Taako is flopped on and sits, holding out his hand for him to pass the blunt.]

[Passing it over, without the usual complaint about Magnus bumming off his hard earned goods. Just leaning forward, putting his chin in his hands for a second, not really looking at him. He's a little afraid to make eye contact in case it sets something off.]

. . . I dont like it any more than you do.

[Taako being so cagey just bothers him even more. He knows it's not what Taako is actually afraid of, but it makes him feel a little angry and hurt that Taako would expect him to lash out.]

Fuck this!! They're all weighing whether they might be putting an innocent person to death, and we could just fucking tell them, Taako. We could just say, we got it, we already know she did it.

[To be fair, he doesn't exactly expect him to lash out - just he knows this is gonna be a rough conversation, and he's not looking forward to having to figure out how to navigate this. It's hard enough as it is without having to argue Magnus out of dying every week.]

I know! I fucking know. It's bullshit, it's total bullshit, but Magnus, they'll, uh, they'll fucking kill you if you do? They'll kill you and then me and we won't have done shit except make a stand at one trial.

No, they won't! These clowns? They haven't managed a single kill yet without the victim getting their licks in. I'd kill any one of them, if they came for me.

[That's the part that kills him. If they came for him, if they came for him he could fight them off. He's strong. But the rules of this game are unfair. They can come for him by hurting other people. Or they can come for him and if he fails, if he makes one mistake, they can hurt Taako. He knows he wouldn't make that mistake, but he can't gamble with Taako's life.]

That isn't how this is gonna work - they aren't putting their best out first. It's only going to get worse from here, because they're going to get smarter, and better at this shit, and it doesn't fucking matter how fast you can swing an axe if they catch you while you're knocked out, or trap you, or fucking poison you. If they lock us in a building and set fire to it, or, I don't know, kill us a million other ways because they've got the resources to do that. We don't. We've got a fake gun full of Big Mac sauce and a dude who can, maybe, if we guess right, tell us who a Reaper is gonna be once a week.

[Taako's getting a little worked up, imagining the ten thousand different ways he could potentially die here, and he's not at all comforted by the fact that victims get licks in. They're still dead. It's not enough.]

This isn't designed to be a fair fight for us. The, uh, Dungeon Master ain't railroading the story so we win.

I've survived worse. I've survived worse shit and worse odds and worse people. Maybe they think they can come for me, but they can't. If it's me they come after, I'll live. It should be me they come after. It shouldn't be kids risking their lives, and all of this stupid game playing.
